Usage notes
[edit]Traditionally, strings and nets were manufactured from animal sinew (widni, tiltya) or plant fibres such as those from the bullrush root (warnpa). In early colonial times, the word was adapted to new agricultural contexts; for example, Teichelmann uniquely records the dual form ngaritangkurla (literally “a pair of ropes”) as an idiom specifically meaning “two bullocks tied together”.
