Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably from over +‎ naad +‎ -s, and not from overnaad because use of the noun is attested much later. The adverb is older than the adjective (contrary to the WNT's inclusion of only the latter).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˌoː.vərˈnaːts/
  • (file)
  • Hyphenation: over‧naads
  • Rhymes: -aːts

Adverb[edit]

overnaads

    Een overnaads gebouwd schip.

overnaads (not comparable)

  1. clinker-built, pertaining to clinker-work [from late 19th c.]
    De overnaadse schepen.
