Cognate with Russian пыхать ‎(pychat', to gasp, pant), Slovene pihati ‎(to blow), rare Bulgarian пъхам ‎(pǎham) (пъхтя ‎(pǎhtja), пъшкам ‎(pǎškam, to gasp, pant)). Non-Slavic cognates include dialectal Norwegian fusa, fjusa, Danish fuse ud ‎(gush out) (from Old Norse fýsa ‎(to urge, desire)), Latin pustula, Sanskrit पुष्यति ‎(puṣyati, he flourishes).
