Polish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Proto-Slavic *podušьka. Cognate with Russian поду́шка (podúška), Ukrainian по́душка (póduška), Czech poduška, Slovak poduška. Also compare Serbo-Croatian духња (“feather bed”), Czech duchna, Polish duchna. Ultimately derivable from Proto-Slavic *duxъ (“breath, spirit”), through the sense development "breath" → "inflated" → "pillow".
