From Middle French probleme, from Latin problēma, from Ancient Greek πρόβλημα (próblēma, obstacle), from προβάλλω (probállō, to throw or lay something in front of someone, to put forward), from προ- (pro-, in front of) + βάλλω (bállō, to throw, to cast, to hurl).
