Etymology[edit]

Borrowing from Ukrainian пи́санка ‎(pýsanka), from писа́ти ‎(pysáty, to write), referring to writing on an egg with a stylus in a wax-resist dyeing process, from Proto-Slavic *pьsati, related to *pьstrъ ‎(feathered), + feminine ending -ка ‎(-ka).
