Etymology
From Common Turkic *kāp (“bowl, cup”); cognate with Karakhanid قابْ (qāp), Turkish kap, Turkmen gap (“box, bag”), Tatar кап (qap, “box, bag, case”). Probably ultimately from Aramaic קַב (qab), via an Iranian language.
