From re- +‎ amener.

  • IPA(key): /ʁam.ne/
  • (file)

  1. (transitive) to take back, bring back, restore
  2. (transitive) to draw, pull (back)
  3. (reflexive) to come down, be reduced (à to)
  4. (reflexive, informal) to roll up, to get one's butt somewhere
    Synonym: débarquer
Il s'est ramené sans prévenir.(please add an English translation of this usage example)
Ramène-toi !(please add an English translation of this usage example)

This verb is conjugated mostly like the regular -er verbs (parler and chanter and so on), but the -e- /ə/ of the second-to-last syllable becomes -è- /ɛ/ when the next vowel is a silent or schwa -e-. For example, in the third-person singular present indicative, we have il ramène rather than *il ramene. Other verbs conjugated this way include lever and mener. Related but distinct conjugations include those of appeler and préférer.
