From rem (a shortening of remark, used as a comment-marking keyword in some programming languages) + out.



rem out (third-person singular simple present rems out, present participle remming out, simple past and past participle remmed out)

  1. (programming, dated, transitive) To temporarily disable (a portion of source code) by converting it into a comment.
    Synonym: comment out

      When Windows 98 is installed, it will "REM out" the MSCDEX statement, if there is one, since Windows has its own driver and doesn't need this one.
