A conflation of two separate stems: (1) Middle Welsh rodaf (I give), from Proto-Brythonic *rodāmi (compare Cornish rov (I give), Breton roan (I give)), from Proto-Celtic *ɸro-dā- (give) (compare Old Irish do·rata (he has given)), from Proto-Indo-European *deh₃- and (2) Middle Welsh rodif (I put), from Proto-Brythonic *rodīmi, from Proto-Celtic *ɸro-dī- (put), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁-.
