A conflation of two separate stems: (1) Middle Welsh rodaf ‎(I give), from Proto-Brythonic *rodāmi (compare Cornish rov ‎(I give), Breton roan ‎(I give)), from Proto-Celtic *ɸro-dā- ‎(give) (compare Old Irish do·rata ‎(he has given)), from Proto-Indo-European *deh₃- and (2) Middle Welsh rodif ‎(I put), from Proto-Brythonic *rodīmi, from Proto-Celtic *ɸro-dī- ‎(put), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁-.
