Turkish

Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish سوزمك (süzmek, to strain, filter, to examine carefully), from Proto-Turkic *süŕ- (to strain, filter). Compare Hungarian szűr (to strain, filter), an early Turkic borrowing from the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Bulgar language. Akin to Proto-Mongolic *sür- (to sprinkle), (Mongolian шүрших (šüršix, to spatter)) and Proto-Tungusic *sir- (to strain, press out, to milk) (Evenki сир (sir-, to squeeze, milk)).
