- (Religion) samana, sramana, a person who has abandoned society and property for religious reasons but does not follow the Vedas
- ဨကဘတ္တိကော သမဏော ဂေါတမော ရတ္တူပရတော ဝိရတော ဝိကာလဘောဇနာ။
- ekabhattiko samaṇo gotamo rattūparato virato vikālabhojanā.
- The gautama monk usually eats only one meal, he abstains from dinner eating.
- (Religion) ascetic, mendicant, an adherent of similarly austere religious practices in other contexts
- recluse, any person who similarly abandons society
