Manx
Etymology
From Old Irish sen, from Proto-Celtic *senos (compare Welsh hen), from Proto-Indo-European *sénos (“old”).
Adjective
shenn (comparative shinney)
- old
- Cha nel ee cha shenn as shen. ― She isn't so very old.
- Hie yn shenn dooinney dy lhie. ― The old man took to his bed.
- Keayrt va mee aeg as nish ta mee shenn. ― Once I was young and now I am old.
- She'n shenn skeeal reesht eh. ― It's the same old story.
Usage notes
Unlike most Manx adjectives, shenn precedes the noun, and lenites it where applicable.
