Borrowing from Japanese 新字体 (shinjitai), from Middle Chinese (MC siɪn, “new”) + 字體 (MC d͡zɨH tʰeiX, “character style, calligraphic form”), from (MC d͡zɨH, “[written] character”) + (MC tʰeiX, “form, body”).
