Albanian

Etymology

From shtrij (lay down, stretch out), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *śtrin-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sterh3-, *streh3- (to spread, scatter, bring down). Related to rashë (I felt) and shtroj (spread, lay down) (from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *śt(a)rē-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sterh₃- (to spread, scatter, floar). Cognate to Old Church Slavonic прострѣти (prostrěti, to spread)).[1] According to Orel, instead borrowed from Latin strātum.[2] Compare Romanian strat.
