[edit]Inherited from Old Spanish syguiente, from the old present participle of seguir. Corresponds to Latin sequentem (“following”), the present active participle of sequor (“to follow”), from Proto-Italic *sekʷōr, from Proto-Indo-European *sekʷ- (“to follow”). Compare English sequential.
