  1. (architecture) The lowest projecting part of a baseboard, a pedestal or a similar construct.
  2. (civil engineering) The lowest course in typical road, driveway, path or sports court construction, above which is the base course, and finally the surface course.
  3. (mathematics) A certain subcollection of a topological space
