Etymology[edit]

From a Turkic language, most likely Oghur (compare to Old Chuvash *tör-, tür-), from Proto-Turkic *döŕ- (to bear, endure, suffer).

Probably a word loaned during the Magyars' presumed part in the Onogur tribal alliance.
