Etymology[edit]
thầy (“teacher”) + sáu (“six”). Prior to Pope Paul VI's motu proprio Ministeria quaedam of 15 August 1972, the deaconate was the sixth order in the Church hierarchy, above the subdeaconate but below the priesthood. [1][2]
