Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 中將, composed of (middle) and (general), from Japanese 中将 (chūjō), originally a military rank under the feudal ritsuryō system that was repurposed by the Imperial Armed Forces, and subsequently by other East Asian militaries.
