Borrowed from Old French vendeor, from Latin venditor (“seller”), from vendere (“to sell, cry up for sale, praise”), contraction of venundare, venumdare, also, as originally, two words venum dare (“to sell”), from venum (“sale, price”) + dare (“to give”).
