From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *uell-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *uel-(s-) (“to tear, seize upon”).[1] Cognate to Latin vello (“to pluck, tug”),[2] Latvian veli, Lithuanian vẽlės (“the ghostly figures of the deceased”), Gothic wilwan (“to rob”), and Hittite [Term?] (/hullāi/, “fight, struggle”).
