Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یكمك (yeŋmek), from Proto-Turkic *yẹŋ- (to win), a possible borrowing from Old Chinese (*leŋ, to win). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yeŋ-, to win), Kazakh жеңу (jeñu), Kyrgyz жеңүү (jeŋüü), etc.
