Etymology

First attested in Mycenean Greek as 𐀞𐀯 (pa-si). From an earlier *παντ-ς (*pant-s), from Proto-Indo-European *ph₂-ent- (all) (whence Tocharian B po (all, every)),[1] apparently a derivative of *peh₂- (to herd, protect).
