Inherited from Old East Slavic обличье (obličĭe), from Proto-Slavic *obličьje, from *oblikъ + *-ьje, from *ob- + *likъ. Cognate with Belarusian аблі́чча (ablíčča), Ukrainian обли́ччя (oblýččja). By surface analysis, о́блик (óblik) +‎ -ье (-ʹje).
