Ultimately from Ancient Greek Σεβαστεία (Sebasteía), from Σεβαστός (Sebastós) + -εια (-eia, “-ia: forming place names”), from σεβᾰστός (sebastós, “venerable, august”) used as a calque of Latin Augustus. Doublet of سیواس.
