From Latin Sebastia, from Ancient Greek Σεβαστεία (Sebasteía), from Ancient Greek Σεβαστός (Sebastós) + -εια (-eia, -ia: forming place names), from σεβᾰστός (sebastós, venerable, august) used as a calque of Latin Augustus. Doublet of Sivas.
