- quyi; a category of traditional, usually non-staged, Chinese vocal art forms such as ballad singing (唱曲 (chàngqǔ) or 彈唱/弹唱 (tánchàng)), storytelling (說書/说书 (shuōshū)), comic dialogues (小品 (xiǎopǐn)), clapper talk (快板 (kuàibǎn)), and crosstalk (相聲/相声 (xiàngsheng))
Usage notes[edit]
The term 曲藝/曲艺 acquired wide usage only after 1949. It is nearly synonymous with the earlier term 說唱/说唱 (shuōchàng).
