German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old High German koron, from Proto-Germanic *kuzōną. The verb was originally not umlauted, but became so under the influence of the noun Kür where the umlaut is original. Compare the Dutch cognate keuren and Middle English cüren (to select) where the same happened.

Verb[edit]

küren (third-person singular simple present kürt, past tense kürte, past participle gekürt, auxiliary haben)
