Etymology

[edit]

From corruption of พระพุทธเจ้าข้า (prá-pút-tá-jâao-kâa), “My Buddha”, according to the Royal Institute Dictionary 2011. But more likely to be from corruption of พญา (pá-yaa, chief; lord; master) +‎ ข้า (kâa, a first person pronoun), “My Lord”.
