Hungarian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested in 1222 as a place name in Regestrum Varadinense. Borrowed from an Oghur Turkic language,[1] ultimately from Proto-Turkic *ïgač (“tree; wood”). Compare Turkmen agaççy (“carpenter”), Uyghur ياغاچچى (yaghachchi, “carpenter”), Salar [Term?] (“carpenter”).
