Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish چیقش (çıkış), from Proto-Turkic *čïk-ïĺ. Equivalent to çık- + -ış. Cognate with Karakhanid جِقِشْ (čïqïš, “going out, way out, profit”), Kazakh шығыс (şyğys, “exit”), Kyrgyz чыгыш (cıgış, “exit”), Uzbek chiqish (“exit, rising up”).
