Etymology

From Vulgar Latin inclāvāre or *inclāviāre, from Latin clāvus (nail) or clāvis (key) (cf. also Late Latin clāvāre, clāvō). Probably influenced by cheie. Compare also Friulian inclavâ, French enclouer.
