[edit]From Ottoman Turkish اورپرمك (ürpermek, “for one's hair to stand on end”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *ürper- (“for one's hair to stand on end”), from Proto-Turkic *ürüp (“raised, fluffy”) with the suffix -ar.[2]
