From Proto-Tocharian *ā́ntë, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ént-o- ‎(in front), *h₂ent- ‎(front, front side). Compare Latin ante, Ancient Greek ἀντί ‎(antí, opposite, facing), Sanskrit अन्ति ‎(ánti), Old Armenian ընդ ‎(ənd), and Old English ende (English end). Compare Tocharian A ānt.
