From Proto-Tocharian *ā́ntë, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ént-o-(in front), *h₂ent-(front, front side). Compare Latin ante, Ancient Greek ἀντί(antí, opposite, facing), Sanskrit अन्ति(ánti), Old Armenian ընդ(ənd), and Old English ende (English end). Compare Tocharian B ānte.
