Etymology

Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek ἀποκεφαλίζω. The figurative sense, semantic loan from French décapiter.[1] Morphologically, from απο- (apo-, de) +‎ κεφάλι (kefáli, head) +‎ -ίζω (-ízo, suffix for verbs).
