Etymology

From Medieval Byzantine Greek ἐρωτεύομαι, from also Medieval ἔρωτ(ας) (érōt(as)) + -εύω/-εύομαι (suffix forming verbs). ἐρωτ- from the accusative τὸν ἔρωτᾰ of the ancient noun  ἔρως (érōs).[1]
