Etymology

From Medieval Byzantine Greek μπερδεύω < ἐμπερδεύω < ἐμπερδένω (see δένω) as in the participle ἐμπερδεμένος (see μπερδεμένος). From (ἐν-) ἐμ- (in) + (περι-) περ- (around) + the ancient δέω (déō, sense: tie).[1][2]
