[edit]Perhaps a blend of καρφώνω (karfóno, “to nail, stab”) + σκαλώνω (skalóno, “to hitch, catch”), with the σ- (s-) of σκαλώνω (skalóno) switched to the beginning of καρφώνω (karfóno).[1]
