Etymology

Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ὑποστηρίζω (hupostērízō), with semantic loan from French soutenir, appuyer, as well as semantic loan from English support.[1] By surface analysis, υπο- (ypo-) +‎ στηρίζω (stirízo).
