From Old East Slavic деревѧнꙑи (derevęnyi), from Proto-Slavic *dervěnъ, from Proto-Indo-European *derwēno- / *derwoyno-, from *deru- (see *dóru). Morphologically *dervo (tree) + *-ěnъ.
