[edit]From Proto-Permic *zarńi, borrowed from an Iranian language, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *jr̥Hanyam. Cognates include Komi-Zyrian зарни (zarńi) and Udmurt зарни (zarńi). Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit हिरण्य (hiraṇya) and Avestan 𐬰𐬀𐬭𐬀𐬦𐬌𐬌𐬀 (zarańiia).
