кобель
Russian
Etymology
Unclear. No cognates in other Slavic languages. Possibly related to Ossetian къӕбула (k’æbula, “young dog”). Trubachyov hypothesizes that the term originally referred to fur color, and explains it as *ко-бѣль, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *bělъ (“white”).
