From кочевря́га (kočevrjága, poser, affected person) +‎ -ить (-itʹ) +‎ -ся (-sja). Per Vasmer, possibly from ко- (ko-, who) +‎ че- (če-, what) +‎ врать (vratʹ, to lie, to tell lies). Compare кочема́зый (kočemázyj, dirty, grimy; tanned, scorched), possibly with the same prefixes + a derivative of ма́зать (mázatʹ, to smear; to soil).
