Bulgarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unclear. Has been compared with Latin laxāre (to loosen). BER does not exclude borrowing (cf. Italian lasciare (to leave), whence Ottoman Turkish naval command لاشكا (laşka, Release!, Relax!) (a ship's sail)).

  1. (transitive) to slam, to shove
  2. (transitive, figurative) to swindle, to order around; to instruct someone to do useless tasks
  3. (reflexive with се) to shake, to wiggle back and forth
