[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *lysъ. Cognate with Belarusian лысы (lysy), Czech lysý, Polish łysy, Ukrainian лисий (lysyj). Akin to Old Armenian լոյս (loys, “light”). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (whence also луна́ (luná), луч (luč)).
Compare typologically Ancient Greek φᾰλᾰκρός (phălăkrós) (akin to φάλαρος (phálaros)).
