From Russian ничто́ (ništó, nothing). Compare Russian никчёмный (nikčómnyj, worthless, useless, good for nothing), Russian никуды́шный (nikudýšnyj, bad, useless, in no respect good), Russian никаку́щий (nikakúščij, in no respect good). Also compare Latin nēquam (worthless, good-for-nothing).
