to help [+dative = whom]
Я ему́ помога́л. ― Ja jemú pomogál. ― I was helping him.
(colloquial) to aid, to assist materially [+dative = whom], [+instrumental = with/using what]
Я дру́гу помога́ю де́ньгами. ― Ja drúgu pomogáju dénʹgami. ― I'm helping a friend with money.
(impersonal) to avail, to work (to have the desired effect)
Лека́рство помога́ет. ― Lekárstvo pomogájet. ― The medicine is helping.
