Either from Polish kula (bullet), influenced by пали́ть (palítʹ, to fire, to burn) or пу́шка (púška, cannon), compare with Ukrainian ку́ля (kúlja, bullet), Belarusian ку́ля (kúlja, bullet) or from French boule (ball).
